The DRIFTERS claim a unique place in popular music history as a major R&B group. They began in early 1953 the name was at first thought to be too country & western today it is sometimes explained as members simply drifting in from other groups. In June of 1953 they released their first recording “Lucille”, In August of the same year they had a number one hit “Money Honey” cited as the first rock & roll record and later performed by Elvis. By the late 50′s the group had 11 R&B hits another hit “There goes my Baby” crossed them over to the pop charts landing at number 2 this became THE DRIFTERS’ trademark song for the next 10 years.
The current line up continues the legacy in 2009 they had 4 new releases, and in 2014 THE DRIFTERS were re-aligned with Sony Music label and they released the first new album in over 30 years “up on the Roof” and it went gold!
