Mike Porter and sister Marsha Banning have been performing and harmonizing their way to the hearts of audiences from TN to the Midwest states of Indiana, Iowa and Illinois, where they are active members of the Illinois Country Music Association. They grew up on Traditional/Contemporary Country, and the 50′s and 60′s songs that could be heard at the town square on Saturday night, as well as the upbeat Southern Gospel favorites they sang every Sunday morning in church. Growing up on Panther Creek Lane, the two became dubbed the “Panther Creek Duo”. Mike also began to excel in the art of Yodeling and performing legendary Rockabilly artists like Elvis, Roy Orbison and Jerry Lee Lewis.
The Panther Creek Duo has won various awards, and performed on the same stage as Joe Diffie, Confederate Railroad, & Clay Walker, to name a few. They are currently the 2008 Illinois Country Music Association’s Duo of the year (for the 4th consecutive year in a row), and their album, “Panther Creek Duo”, has been named 2007 NACMAI Country Music Album of the Year. Mike was also named The 2005 International Grand Champion Yodeler, so yodeling songs are always a unique favorite at his shows. He has opened for Loretta Lynn, Ronnie McDowell and Phil Vasser, to name a few.
Mike currently has 10 albums total, the most recent being, “Nashville Ain’t Gonna Come To Me”. This self written album has already earned 2 International awards and was named the 2008 Illinois Country Music Association’s Album Recording of the Year. In March 2007, Mike was awarded NACMAI Songwriter of the Year, for the title track, “Nashville Ain’t Gonna Come To Me”, and 2007 NACMAI Songwriter of the Year (Holiday), for “It just Don’t Feel Like Christmas”, featured on the album. He also has albums featuring his Classic Country, 50′s and 60′s and Yodeling favorites.
Mike has earned the title of Illinois Country Music Association’s Songwriter of the Year, Entertainer of the Year and the 2008 Male Vocalist in an Opry for his creation and performances in the “Gym Bob’s Jamboree Show”, www.GymBobs.com.
In March of 2009, he earned the title of “The 2009-10 Prairie Thunder Country Idol” winner, (finals were held at the U.S Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, IL).
